JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), New York’s Hometown Airline and Long Beach Airport’s largest carrier, today is excited to celebrate a landmark moment in aviation history: the 100th anniversary of the first transcontinental flight, which departed Sheepshead Bay, New York at 4:30 p.m. on September 17, 1911 and landed in Long Beach, California – JetBlue’s current West Coast base of operations – on December 10, 1911. To celebrate, JetBlue today is offering $100 fares each way between New York’s JFK and Long Beach (LGB), available for purchase exclusively on jetblue.com for Tuesday and Wednesday travel between January 10 and January 31, 2012 (a).

In addition to the special fare, JetBlue is partnering with Long Beach Airport and the City of Long Beach to celebrate the “Transcontinental Centennial,” at the Long Beach Airport today to preview a 1/3 scale replica of the plane which transited the nation 100 years ago, the “Vin Fiz,” which will then make its way to the Long Beach Arena for installation and opening on the 10th. Other special guests will include Craig Fuller, President and CEO of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Jim Lloyd, who constructed a replica plane and recreated the flight landing in Long Beach on the 75th anniversary.

American Airlines today announced that that it has teamed up with oneworld® members – British Airways and Iberia – to offer special savings from the United States to cities throughout Europe. American also announced significant savings on travel between the United States and cities throughout the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico, Latin America, and Asia.

Tickets for these special fares must be purchased by Sept. 5, and travel to all destinations except Europe must take place between Sept. 1 and Dec. 15. Travel to Europe must take place between Sept. 1 and May 15, 2012. Other restrictions apply.
