Dopplr, the online service for smart travel, today announced the launch of Dopplr – The Social Atlas, a free iPhone application available worldwide in the iPhone App Store.
This mobile location-based application puts the combined wisdom of the world’s smart travellers in your pocket.

Wherever you are in the world, you can use it to find nearby recommended places to eat, stay and explore. If you make new discoveries of your own, you can add them to the Social Atlas with a few taps of your finger. And every new addition helps to expand the Social Atlas, which is starting small but growing rapidly with the input from Dopplr travellers using their mobile devices.

I can’t remember the last time I actually had a meal on an airplane, and I fly fairly frequently. I’m so tired of pretzels, peanuts, and those horrible little packages of snack mix that I routinely refuse them. The airline staff looks at me like I’m nuts, but instead of highly processed, high sodium, bad tasting ‘food’, I bring my own healthy and good-tasting snacks. Here are my favorites:

1. Homemade trail mix tastes far better, and is much better nutritionally, than anything you get on an airplane. I mix a variety of nuts and seeds together with a handful of dried fruit (craisins are my current favorite, although dried cherries are a close second) and a smaller amount of chocolate chips. There’s no reason why you can’t enjoy a little dark chocolate sweetness with all those other healthy foods!

In an effort to further shield its residents and travelers against the swine flu, which is now being referred to as influenza A (H1N1), Belize is taking additional proactive steps towards protection against the pandemic. One such act is the closing of the Belize Free Zone and casinos in the town of Corozal, which borders Mexico. That effort, which was done in collaboration with the Mexican authorities, is just one of many vigilant measures that Belize’s Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture, and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) have taken.

To date, Belizean officials have not been advised of any confirmed influenza A (H1N1) cases in the country.
