With so many new highlights every season – new ships, new ports, new cruise regulations – trying to reasearch how you will spend your next cruise holidays can seem like a full time job by itself.
Sure, the internet is a wealth of information and cruise forums are always buzzing with news, but is that really enough?
Personally, I am a big fan of travel magazines. Not only do they have the latest (and greatest) of what’s hot in cruise vacation itineraries, I just love looking through pages of pictures. Cabins … travellers having a great time on their cruise …. food reviews…. beautiful sunsets…. And when it comes to enticing me to go on a holiday, nothing beats a glossy picture of white sand and blue waters, with a cruise line docked at the pier in the background.
If you’ve never picked up a cruise or travel magazine before, here are the most popular ones that can provide you with enough information to book your cruise holidays for the next five years!

Great magazine tips. I will have to take a look at some of these
Thanks for the list of magazines, they will be extremely helpful for me, since I am looking to go on a cruise for my spring break from college. Right now, I get my cruise magazines for free from my local AAA office.
I actually got a free one year subscription to Cruise Travel and have really enjoyed it. If you are ever looking into taking a cruise and want information on the best ones to go on, types of cruises, what to bring and on and on this is a must magazine.

If you love travelling 3Plus3, you will love these magazines!
My grandma and I went to the Caribbean a couple years ago. We left from South Beach, FL on Norwegian Cruise Line. they really treated us like royalty and it was a lot of fun!
When my grandma and I cruised the Carribean, we took a shore excursion to pet some dolphins! It was so fun and we loved it. We also took shore excursions to take a sub ride, go shopping, and enjoy a beach on Jamaica where a live band performed for us.
I love reading these magazines also as they are very imformative especially where the ship will be located duting the next few months. As easy as the internet is, these periodicals are a one stop and easier than going from site to site. Once you look through them you can then go on line with a beter idea of what you are seeking.
Test
I’ve never cruised with Carnival, but it looks really fun. Anyone been? any pros or cons on the subject?
I have been on so many cruises but I always felt that Carnival would only be good for 1st time cruisers. It was my 1st cruise. I had taken another with them in 2006 and compared with other lines it just don´t appeal to me. Maybe it was becasue I was young and single on the 1st. The rooms are lovely but I feel they are always pushing you to get involved. At this stage of my life, I prefer a cruise that lets want to be alone if that is what I desire.
My personal favorites are NCL, RCCL, HAL (which is owned by Carnival) and Costa (also owned by Carnival).
I’d like to cruise around Aussie, how is it? any stories?
Travelforever, I can’t agree with you more. When it comes to travel, it’s best to pick up a magazine instead.
Mrs. Tinsley, taking a caribbean cruise is always so much fun. I like Norwegian’s Freestyle concept because I like to holiday my way and not be restricted to specific dining times.
Mrs. Tinsley, Carnival has come a long way from being the party ships. The food is better, show productions, and even the decor has changed to suit a more mature crowd.
And they always offer their cruises at such a good price, you’ve got to try to be on one sometime!
Sharon, I am with you on NCL. We love their concept of choosing the hour in which we dine and the type of cuisne, whether French, Japonese, Italian or laid back casual.
TravelForever, you are so right about that! Carnival cruises are really great if you are looking to get involved in what’s happening around you.
But some cruisers, just prefer to have a different kind of holiday. Princess still ranks very high on my list.
I usually check out a lot of these already! They are really good. Others I’ve not seen before – thanks for the tips!
My grandparents went on a cruise up to Alaska. They said it was beautiful.. maybe I’ll try it someday
Mrs. Tinsley,
Of all the cruises I have taken, that is one I missed. I lived on the east coast and it was such a long trip to get to. Perhaps in the future, I will also.
I agree that magazines are much easier to use because like the above poster stated you can go back and relook at what you need to.
Which cruise line has the best “bang for your buck”?
Hi Mrs. Tinsley,
Having been on 15 different ships, all I can say is that you can get a ¨bang for your buck¨on anyone of them. It all depends on what you are seeking. If you want elegance and refinement, take a Cunard ship. If you want a little bit of everything, Costa works well (also has some great prices when they di a sale). If you want party party day & night…head for Carnival. I have only been dissappointed with 1 line and then I gave them another chance and they were terrific. So you have to narrow it down to what you are seeking and there´s a cruise out there that is perfect for everyone.
Mrs. Tinsley, cruises to Alaska are very nice. And they age group of the cruisers that are heading that way every year is getting younger and younger.
If you are considering taking a cruise, you should make sure to take a cruise tour. Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America has probably got some of the best selections.
And, don’t forget to send pictures and post it here!
Mrs. Tinsley, because I’ve lived in the west coast for most of my life, I’ve never gotten on one of the Canada and New England Cruises.
They always get sold out so quickly and are quite pricey.
Tater03, that’s so true and I always keep the magazines that I know would help me decide a vacation at a later date.
I always keep mine also. They can be quite pricey especially if you are buying them all the time and not getting the actual subscription to them.
Mrs. Tinsley, it all comes to what you mean by “bang for the buck”. For some people, it’s money…. then you might be interested in checking out deals from Carnival or Norwegian Cruise Line. If you are talking about food, then you might want to check out Holland America.
What interests you the most in cruises?
I personally have heard a lot of good things lately about Norwegian Cruise Line. I have never checked into Holland America though.
We booked them again for July 2008 in Europe. They are now my favorite!, although I would consider others also.
Wow, that is great that you have a cruise to look forward to. I wish I could tell you I had one booked but don’t at the moment.
The way the dollar is in Europe right now, a cruise is the most cost saving way to visit. Think of it as your floating hotel. Also another thing, in Europe there are many intercontinel carriers so you do not have to fly directly to your place of embarkment. One way to achieve this is to take the least expensive flight to anywhere in Europe, stay there for 1 or 2 days and take a low cost flight to the embarkment city. Not only do you visit another place, you save money in the interm.
